This is a saga about the power of pure good (Snow White) against complicated evil. While Charlize Theron as the stunning and deathly stepmother Queen Ravena, doesn't elicit our sympathy, she does inspire our curiosity. There is a reason she has become so selfish, and beauty and power obsessed. You wonder if in some way she identifies with Snow White, at least as a child. If not -- why didn't she kill her immediately instead of imprisoning her for years?

Now, while I would have liked to know what Snow White did for all her years locked up in a tower -- she had to occupy her mind somehow -- Kristen Stewart is very believable as a young woman in awe of an outside world she has escaped into after only glimpsing it through a window for years.

Veep Cautions Women Over Breast Cancer | Daily Guide Newspaper

VICE PRESIDENT John Dramani Mahama has debunked assertions that breast cancer is a spiritual disease which is inflicted on innocent people by witches.

He has consequently cautioned the general public, notably those inflicted by the disease, not to visit spiritualists or herbalists for an antidote, but to rather visit the hospital for proper treatment.

Mr. Mahama was addressing about 20,000 people who participated in this year?s annual Susan G. Komen Ghana Race for the Cure, which was the country?s second edition.

The participants, including men, women and students, walked through the principal streets of Kumasi on the AU Day to create awareness about breast cancer, after which they converged on the Baba Yara Stadium.

Mr. Mahama, the guest of honour for the event, lamented that people suffering from the disease often had the wrong notion that it was a spiritual disease and therefore resorted to herbalists for treatment.

He disclosed that such people normally visited the hospital at a time that the disease had reached an advanced stage and was almost impossible to cure.

Organized by the Breast Care International (BCI) Ghana in collaboration with Peace and Love Hospitals, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure series is the world?s largest and most successful educational and fundraising event for breast cancer.

Mr. Mahama passionately appealed to sufferers of the disease to rush to the hospital in the early stages of the disease for effective treatment.

He disclosed that the breast cancer menace was sending scores of women to their graves, therefore all hands must be on deck to curb it, stating government?s desire to contribute to reducing breast cancer cases in the country.

Mr. Mahama stated that ignorance about breast cancer was the main cause of the many deaths that had been recorded as a result of the disease, urging the populace to join BCI, Ghana, to make more noise about breast cancer so as to save more human lives.

Breast cancer, he opined, ?is beatable?, explaining further that early detection and right medication from experts could make the disease not deadly.

The President of BCI, Ghana, Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, a renowned breast surgeon, expressed worry that whilst breast cancer deaths was reducing in the advanced world, the case was the opposite in under-developed countries including Ghana.

The world-acclaimed breast cancer expert attributed the anomaly to lack of knowledge about the disease, calling for help from all including the government to enable the BCI, Ghana, educate a sizeable number of Ghanaians about breast cancer.

Dr. Mrs. Wiafe Addai also deflated speculations that witches caused breast cancer, insisting that the real cause of the disease was still not known.

She however assured that early detection and prompt action by visiting the hospital early for right medication was the best way to defeat breast cancer.

The Paramount Chief of Goaso Traditional Area, Nana Akwasi Bosompora I, who represented the Asantehene, charged traditional leaders to play leading roles in battling breast cancer.

He sternly cautioned women, especially traders, to refrain from putting money in their brassiere, reminding them that money was poisonous therefore any contact it made with human breast could result in fatal consequences.

Nuclear Tuna Is Hot News, But Not Because It's Going To Make You Sick

What snarky headline writer could resist a story about "hot tuna?" Or how about "tuna meltdown?"

Really, it seems just plain daffy to ignore a new study that says some Pacific bluefin tuna picked up traces of radioactive material from the Fukushima nuclear disaster last year and brought it across the Pacific Ocean.

And while, as a rule, we avoid making light of nuclear disasters, the tuna story is actually just plain curious, rather than threatening, once you understand the context.

You see, Pacific bluefin tuna spawn off the coast of Japan. They are superb swimmers, so in a few months time, they make it across the Pacific to the coast of Mexico and Southern California to feed ? and then get caught. They are also delicious, pricey and on the verge of population collapse, according to Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch.

Last summer, scientists bought 15 of these beautiful fish from the docks in San Diego to check them for contaminants.

Fish do carry contaminants. Most significant from the standpoint of public health is methyl mercury, which is a neurotoxin. It's especially a risk for developing fetuses, which is why the U.S. government urges women of child-bearing age to limit their tuna consumption.

The researchers are still waiting for their mercury results on this particular batch of fish. But Monday they published other findings in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Sure enough, the tuna from Japan had picked up traces of radioactive cesium, according to Nicholas Fisher and Zofia Baumann at Stony Brook University, and Daniel Madigan at Stanford University, who co-wrote the article.

The cesium was a blend of two different varieties ? cesium-134 and cesium-137. The exact mix of these isotopes creates a signature showing that the radiation came from the multiple meltdowns last March in Fukushima.

Fisher says they weren't actually worried about radioactive cesium as a health risk. They tested the flesh, "mostly just to see if it we could detect it, and we were quite surprised, I must say. We did not expect to see this radioactivity retained by the fish during their trans-Pacific voyage, which we estimates takes from three to four months."

Yes, radiation in seafood seems scary. But here's the catch (if you pardon the expression). Tuna, like every other food on the planet, already contains naturally occurring radiation. It has potassium-40 and polonium-210. It always has and it always will. In addition, seafood in general contains a trace of cesium-137 left over from nuclear weapons testing in the 1950s and 1960s.

So the question is, how much more radiation did these particular tuna fish contain? The answer is: A trivial amount. In fact, radiation from the cesium is 30 times less than the radiation that's already in the fish naturally in the form of potassium-40, according to the research paper. And the natural polonium-210 packs a radiation dose 200 times larger than the dose from the cesium.

Really, the result is a testament to how well scientists can now measure tiny amounts of radiation. And of course it's a remarkable lesson in how wildlife can be traced using accidental "tags" instead of using the labor-intensive plastic ones.

If you are still worried about the cesium from Fukushima, Robert Emery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston says you'd need to eat 2.5 to 4 tons of tuna in a year to get a dose of cesium-137 that exceeds health limits. That's a lot of sushi.

Yes, bluefin is used primarily for sushi. And, much of the Pacific bluefin tuna that's caught off the coast of Mexico and Southern California is shipped right back across the ocean, to be sold at the lucrative seafood markets ? in Japan.

California food police gone wild: LA County health enforcers conduct door-to-door raw milk confiscation operations

In a bombshell revelation of the depth of the food police state that now exists in LA County, California, NaturalNews has learned that the LA County health department has unleashed door-to-door raw milk confiscation teams to threaten and intimidate raw dairy customers into surrendering raw milk products they legally purchased and own.

According to Mark McAfee (see quotes below), both LA County and San Diego county have attempted to acquire customer names and addresses from Organic Pastures (www.OrganicPastures.com) for the sole purpose of sending ?food confiscation teams? to customers? homes to remove the raw milk from customers? refrigerators. Using both phone calls and home visits, these teams intimidate customers and try to force them to give up their milk.

These revelations have surfaced in a recorded NaturalNews interview with Mark McAfee, the founder of Organic Pastures and a food rights advocate. Here?s what he told us:

?I received a phone call yesterday morning from a wonderful young gal, a 36-year-old mom out of LA County. She?s one of our UPS customers that we deliver overnight raw milk to her house. When the CDFA was in here the other day on our recall, they demanded to have all our delivery addresses for overnight UPS delivery. We screwed up and [inadvertently] gave it to them, they got it from one of our secretaries here. The LA County health department started calling her, six or seven times, demanding that she give up her raw milk from her own home to the health department.

She refused, then they showed up at her house and demanded that she give her raw milk to them. She was getting ready to call 911 for the Sheriff?s department and have them removed from her front doorstep, and she was threatening to use her camera to take a picture of them and post it on Facebook for harassing her over her raw milk? The investigators left after she told them she was not going to give them the raw milk and to get the Hell off her property.

This is what?s going on, it?s like food Nazis, it?s incredible what these people are doing, trying to collect food from people?s houses, that have not made them ill!

Then the San Diego health department called me up and said oh we want a list of all your buyer?s club members, and I said no? and they said we want all their addresses and their names, because we want to go to their homes. I said it ain?t happening, we aren?t going to give it to you.?

LA County has already conducted armed raids on raw milk distribution centers ? arearmed raids on raw milk customersnext? Will LA County Health Department investigators start calling on the police to go door to door, arresting raw milk owners as if they were crack dealers?

Remember: The raw milk from Organic Pastures is legally sold, legally purchased, and greatly enjoyed by its customers. There are virtually no complaints about this product. Customers love it. Only the government wants to confiscate it and destroy it.

GCC: Can The Arab Gulf States Form A Political And Economic Union To Rival The EU And Shut Out Iran?

Iran's long conflict with its Arab neighbors in the Persian Gulf region reached a new low recently over a controversial proposal by Saudi Arabia to form a ?union? of sorts with Bahrain.

Since an uprising erupted in Bahrain last year, in tandem with the wider 'Arab Spring' revolution, the royal families of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have both accused Iran of interfering with Bahrain's internal affairs.

Bahrain is somewhat unusual in the Middle East in that the ruling elite are Sunni Muslims who govern a populace of predominantly Shi'a Muslims. Iran (a Shi'a power) has reportedly assisted their Shi'a compatriots in Bahrain in their protests against the government. In response, Bahrain's powerful Sunni-dominated ally Saudi Arabia dispatched troops to Manama to quell the rebellion in the tiny kingdom and maintain a tense status quo.

Worse yet for Tehran, the contemplated union of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain forms only one part of a potentially much wider alliance -- the political, military and economic integration of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which comprise Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman.

The last GCC meeting in Riyadh on May 15 failed to reach a concrete agreement on this ambitious project, but the mere suggestion of the idea of the Saudis and Bahrainis uniting sparked alarm and resentment in Iran as well as among the opposition in Bahrain.
